01Guarding an object

The dog lies off the lead with an object in front of it, and the owner gives the command ‘Guard’. The dog must not leave its position. If an intruder attempts to take the object, the dog signals that it is ready to attack. If the attempt continues, it attacks the intruder and immediately returns to the object. The dog can guard an object against one or several intruders.

02Protecting the owner

The dog protects its owner. It can respond to the owner's command to defend them and can also independently recognise a life-threatening situation and repel an attacker to save its owner.

03Apprehending a fleeing intruder

If an intruder flees, the dog pursues them on the owner's command ‘Stranger’ or ‘Attack’.

04Frontal attack

The dog's ability to repel an intruder attempting to attack it or its owner with an object.

05Remaining calm around gunfire

An assistant fires a shot from a distance of 50 metres. The dog responds calmly.

06Attacking a shooter

The dog fearlessly attacks the opponent's arm despite their attempt to fire a shot. Even if a shot is fired, the dog continues its attack.

07Escorting a detained intruder

The dog escorts the intruder to law enforcement officers, preventing escape. If the intruder attempts to escape, the dog attacks them.

08Scent discrimination of objects

The dog can identify the scent of a target object among other objects, finding the required item or one belonging to its owner.

09Working against 1–10 people while protecting the owner, on and off the lead.

The dog can act effectively against several attackers: after inflicting serious injury on one opponent, it quickly switches to the next while maintaining control of the situation.

10Detecting explosives by scent.

As soon as the dog detects the scent of explosives, it gives the appropriate signal and indicates their location.

11Identifying a person by scent.

Can locate an intruder or a person being sought using an item belonging to them.

12Tracking a person.

The dog is allowed to scent the starting point of the trail. It will locate the person at a distance of 500 m.

13Identifying people carrying firearms in a crowd.

If a person carrying a firearm is near the owner, the dog gives its owner the appropriate signal.

Completing training

Final examination

The handler and dog take a final examination. On passing, the school issues a certificate in the dog's name for the Personal Protection Dog programme.

The owner's work between sessions

Progress depends on existing skills, the dog's condition and regular practice by the owner. A skill learnt at the training ground needs to be gradually applied to everyday situations.

Questions and answers

Training, owner participation and course terms.

How does the SOLBI course differ from Protection and Guard Training?
The SOLBI course covers a broader range of tasks: identifying armed people, detecting explosives and preventing attacks in public places. It is a professional-level programme that goes beyond conventional guarding.
Is the course suitable for private owners or only for law enforcement and security services?
The course is designed both for professionals — security companies and law enforcement or security services — and for private owners who want to guarantee their personal safety.
Can a dog take the course without knowing basic commands?
No. Completion of the General Training Course is required for admission. This is necessary for working safely on more advanced skills.
How safe is such a dog for the family and others?
Completely safe. The dog acts only on command, remains balanced and is fully controllable by its owner. Uncontrolled aggression is excluded.
Can a dog be trained to detect weapons and explosives?
Yes. The course includes a separate module on locating and indicating dangerous items, including weapons and explosives.
Which breeds are accepted for training?
Only working breeds with sufficient physical strength, stamina and working qualities.
What will I gain from completing the course?
You gain a dog capable of preventing attacks, identifying threats and detecting weapons and explosives, keeping you safe in any conditions.
